BAFF - Brussels Art Film Festival

Every two years, the Brussels Art Film Festival awards a grant to help aspiring filmmakers with script writing. The CVB supports the award-winner in the writing and production of their future film.

Set up in 2015, this collaboration with Belgian association Centre du Film sur l’Art is part of our ongoing objective to help young filmmakers and help broaden the documentary film offer in the Wallonia-Brussels Federation with new original works.

The BAFF, which is an annual festival of documentary films about art in relation to Belgium, takes place in November in Brussels. It selects the films shown and awards two prizes (Film sur l'Art for films about art and the Prix Découverte SCAM for young and upcoming filmmakers). The BAFF has recently also begun to award a writing grant every two years to a young filmmaker.

The CVB guides the award-winner in the writing and the production their future film.

In 2015, Rebecca Fruitman (former ERG student) finished editing her film Fragilité de la verticale.

At the end of 2016, the BAFF jury awarded the grant to Sophie Charlier (former INSAS student) for her film project on an artist from Liège, Luis Salazar. Produced by the CVB, the film Non seulement le bleu was finished in September 2018.

Since late 2017, the CVB has been supporting Maxime Fuhrer with his project Film Hacker. This essay film shows two experiences where the means for making films are collectively reclaimed, thus questioning to what extent you can freely hand-craft films without depending on any form of industry.
